Surveillance cameras create huge volumes of video and imagery capturing events as they occur. However, due to the volume of data, surveillance media is rarely examined unless a known event occurred. With the unlimited workforce of cloud labor, footage can be continuously watched and judged in near real time. If a violation event occurs, Alegion will immediately alert the customer to the video footage in question. Customers can customize the surveillance guidelines and provide a list of violation codes if necessary. Alegion moderation can achieve exceptional accuracy and can optionally provide timestamps to identify the violation in the video timeline. Alegion moderation usually takes less than 90 seconds and can process millions of records a day at near 100% quality.

How it Works

Surveillance video or image URLs are are passed to Alegion via our Moderation API. Longer videos are first split into 90 second increments or less and then passed the moderation group. Each media file is then shown to multiple workers simultaneously and their answers are compared. If the workers have reached a unanimous consensus, the moderation result is provided back to the customer. If the workers differ on their moderation judgement, a final arbitrator is tasked to make a determination. Arbitrators or a smaller group of workers that have demonstrated exceptional quality in the use case and can be trusted to make the correct judgement. Once the judgement is accepted, all of the previous workers scores are updated and the judgement is passed back to the customer. If the customer has optionally requested the timestamp or rejection code these will be included along with the media moderation result.

Considerations
  • Optional private crowd moderation is available to customers with sensitive data or regulatory protected data (CJIS, US citizens, and more). Workers in this private crowd have undergone the necessary background checks and have submitted to appropriate attestations necessary to moderate restricted data. Additionally, geographic constraints can be added to the cloud labor pool to restrict workers to a specific locality (US only, state specific, etc..)
  • In addition to primary moderation, Alegion’s UGC moderation can be used to supplement algorithmic moderation. Workers can help train the algorithms or handle QA and exceptions if the algorithmic quality does not achieve the necessary level.
